10 day Tanzania self drive camping safari

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, your journey begins in Arusha city, the safari capital of Tanzania. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro airport you will be received and brought to your accommodation.

After breakfast in Arusha you will receive instructions on how to use the Toyota Lancruiser or Landrover. It is useful to stock up on some food, drinks and water for the coming days.
Then you drive to Tarangire National Park. This ride takes about two hours. This is a beautiful route through savanna landscape.
On arrival you have time to go on safari in the park. Don’t forget to discuss a two-night camping spot at the entrance gate. You can cook at your tent.
The next day you will enjoy a full day safari in Tarangire National Park.

After breakfast in Tarangire, pack your tent again and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The drive there takes about 1.5 hours.
Just before the Lake Manyara National Park you drive through the village of Mto wa Mbu. This typical African village has a colorful local market with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Great for on the go.
On arrival in Lake Manyara you go on safari in the park.
At the end of the afternoon you drive out of the park to a camping site just outside the boundary of the park. Here is also a mini supermarket.

You leave early in the morning after breakfast to Serengeti National Park. You will of course leave your camping spot immaculate. The route to the Serengeti is beautiful. After the rainforest you can stop at a viewpoint over the Ngorongoro Crater. Ahead is the Olduvai Gorge, the cradle of humanity. With a museum about the origin of man and beautiful views are over the endless plains.
Along the way you already enjoy the many wild animals that you will see. You will spend the next three nights at a camping pitch in the middle of Serengeti National Park. From here you will go on safaris for the next few days. This immense park has a lot to offer. It is recommended to go on a safari a day before sunrise. The animals are most active during this time of the day.

After breakfast you drive to the Ngorongoro area. Along the way you will make beautiful safaris where you can still see many wild animals.
You continue to a camping site at the top of the edge of this spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. Here is water and a place to cook.

Today a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater is on the program. For a safari in this world famous crater where you can spot the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino) quite easily.

A tip is to get up extra early today and pack everything up so that you get to the crater very early and have the place to yourself. Don’t forget to bring a picnic lunch. After lunch you drive back to Arusha city at your own pace.

You can extend the trip with a visit to Zanzibar. Or you will be taken from Arusha to Kilimanjaro airport for the flight back to Amsterdam
